So I was right and we have a Knicks and Spurs Finals matchup!
While conventional wisdom is saying that the winner of Spurs/OKC should run away with it since the West is the far superior conference, I don’t feel nearly as strong about that conclusion. This season, the top 4 in the East have a winning record against the top 4 in the West. The West is stacked 1 through 15, while the East only has about 4 real contenders, but that doesn’t mean the top tier teams in the East can’t hold up with the best in the West. As mentioned prior, the East play the West regularly. We see them face up time and time again, and see the top of the East perform admirably. This isn’t the NFL where AFC and NFC teams rarely face each other. We’ve seen NY face all the teams in the West, and beat all of them too. Additionally, NY is much better rested, they’ve dusted off everyone with ease and have rested in the 4th of almost every game. The Spurs had Wemby get concussed in round 1, were in a dogfight against Minnesota in round 2, and just went the full 7 against OKC.
In short, my analysis is simple. The Knicks are on a generational run, and that has given them an insurmountable rest advantage. The Spurs have been through too much. Wemby, has played too many minutes. I see this New York team finishing off the generational run and winning it in 6.
Final take: Knicks in 6 over the Spurs.
